How we rank, how we earn, how we crawl

The ranking rule, as coded

This list is rendered from the same file the site sorts with, so it cannot drift from what actually runs.

  1. Verified within the last 12 months first. "Verified" means we re-read the operator's own website and confirmed it is current.
  2. Then by completeness of public facts: headquarters, coordinates, founding year, languages, countries operated, at least one listed tour.
  3. Then by years in operation, oldest first, where the founding year is stated.
  4. Then alphabetically by name.

What this site is

This site is run by Multigate International Limited, trading as Travel by Motorcycle (“Multigate”). It is a database of motorcycle tour operators and rental companies, built from facts read on each operator’s own website and re-checked every week. We list and compare. We never take a booking, hold your money or bundle services. You book directly with the operator.

Identical facts for everyone

Every operator gets the same fields: what they offer, where they are based, which countries they operate in, languages, founding year, when we last verified them, tours listed and prices. No operator can add marketing text, and none can remove a field. Operators that pay us nothing are never hidden and never pushed down.

Some links carry a Partner label. If you book through one, the operator may pay us a commission. The price you pay is unaffected. Commission is not used by the ranking rule above and has no effect on order. The site is built with a database key that cannot read commission, affiliate or deal fields at all, and that restriction is tested on every deploy.

Sponsored slots are paid placements. They sit in a separate, labelled box and never change an operator’s position in the ranked list below them.

Claims {#claims}

Any operator can claim its listing for free by writing to us from an address on its own domain. A claimed listing shows “Claimed” and gains the right to correct facts, with evidence. Claiming does not change rank. A paid tier, when it exists, adds presentation only, such as a logo, and is separate from the Sponsored placements described above; neither changes rank.

Corrections {#corrections}

If a fact is wrong, tell us with a link to the page on the operator’s site that shows the correct value. We re-read the source and update the record; we do not take an operator’s word without a source.

Data and verification

Facts are extracted from operator websites by an automated crawler, checked against a fixed schema, and stamped with the date of the last successful read. Coordinates are city-level from OpenStreetMap, never street addresses. Nothing is copied from reviews, forums or other directories.

Crawler policy {#crawler}

Our crawler identifies itself as TBMCBot, reads robots.txt and obeys it, waits between requests, and fetches a handful of pages per site per week. To stop it, add a Disallow rule for TBMCBot in your robots.txt; the next weekly run will honour it and your listing will keep its last verified facts until you claim it. After 12 months without a successful re-read the listing ranks behind currently verified ones under the rule above, though it is never hidden.

API {#api}

A read-only JSON API and an MCP server expose the same published facts for agents and developers. Documentation is published at docs/api.md; the endpoints are listed there.
